Latest news updates live, October 20, 2021: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Uttar Pradesh today to inaugurate Kushinagar International Airport. According to an official statement, PM Modi will participate in an event marking the day of Abhidhamma at the Mahaparinirvana temple. He will attend a public function to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for various development projects in Kushinagar. The inauguration of Kushinagar International Airport will be marked by the landing of the inaugural flight at Colombo Airport, Sri Lanka, carrying a Sri Lankan delegation of over 100 Buddhist monks and dignitaries, including 12 members of the entourage of the Holy Relic bringing the Holy Relics of Buddha for the exhibition. The delegation also includes Anunayakas (Deputy Heads) of the four Nikatas (Orders) of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, namely Asgiriya, Amarapura, Ramana, Malwatta as well as five Ministers of the Government of Sri Lanka headed by Cabinet Minister Namal Rajapakshe. Kushinagar International Airport was built at an estimated cost of Rs. 260 crores. It will enable national and international pilgrims to visit Lord Buddha’s sthal Mahaparinirvana and is an effort to connect the holy places of Buddhist pilgrimage across the world.
