Nepal Army Chief talks with Assam Rifles Managing Director

KathmanduNepalese Army Chief Prabhuram Sharma met with Indian Army Director General of Assam Rifles Lt. Gen. Pradeep Chandran Nair on Tuesday and discussed issues relating to bilateral interests and mutual cooperation.

Assam Rifles, India‘s oldest paramilitary force, provides security for the North Eastern region and plays a diverse role ranging from security to providing welfare and development aid to the people.

During the meeting, the two army officials discussed issues relating to bilateral interests and mutual cooperation, according to sources from the Nepalese army headquarters.

“The Nepalese army believes that such visits will further consolidate and deepen the mutual relationship existing between the armies of the two neighboring countries,” they said.

The meeting came days after Nepali Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba visited India and met Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The two countries inaugurated a cross-border railway network, a power transmission line and launched the Indian payment card RuPay in Nepal after promising to significantly expand bilateral relations during high-profile talks.

The two sides also signed four pacts to expand cooperation in the fields of railways and energy.
